Hostgator – Shared Hosting vs Reseller Hosting?
I am going to start over six companies. One company will import products from other countries and there will be different websites with different names devoted to the different types of products (All of these will be online stores). Also, there will be three or four different websites that will contain information about business start-ups, video uploads, etc. Should I go with a reseller account? Why is there such a difference between the disk and bandwidth space between shared hosting and reseller hosting? Also, how much space do you think I will need to host all of these? I am not sure how much disk space and bandwidth I need. Thanks a lot.

What hosts do is “oversell” shared hosting. So you normally do not actually have the total amount of bandwidth that they say you have. Reseller hosting is shared also, which basically means you will be paying for the same hosting server space as on a regular shared hosting package, but you will have the ability to resell the space you dont use. Many use this feature to host several of their own sites, as you want to do. Most sites do not use anything near the bandwidth they are offered.

The average web site contains a mix of text and images throughout its pages, and may or may not offer files for download. The average web site also gets average traffic, meaning anywhere from 50-500 visitors per day. Assuming these factors, a hosting plan with anywhere from 3-5 gigabytes (GB) of data transfer per month should suffice. (See why i say most sites never touch their bandwidth limit) For sites that get more than 500 visitors per day, or those that offer numerous large files for download, it is wise to secure a hosting plan with 50 gigabytes of data transfer per month – or more, which is not hard to come by these days. It is important to note that most web hosts quote your allotted bandwidth in “per month” terms, when in fact that number is actually broken down to a “per day” limit. So you want to stay away of these factors as they are closely monitored by all web hosts.

You know, we are in each others contact list… feel free to email me man. I would love to help out with all of your hosting questions. Just email me.
Not to mention my site HostGumbo.com will contribute $48 to your hosting plan for simply clicking through our site to HostGator when you make your purchase. We are here to help. Give us a shot.
      Take care.

I’m not sure what your question is.
Domain names cost from about 10 to 30 US Dollars to register.
There are many domain hosting companies, about the only difference is there monthly cost. You must know how to produce your website using HTML, or other scripting such as JAVA and how to upload “FTP” your website onto the server. I Have been using USWDH for some time and that are about 50 US Dollars a year for their hosting service and I have received goos customer service from them.
      Good luck

    Questions about reseller web hosting?
I’m thinking of doing reseller web hosting, perhaps with HostGator. I understand that I pay a monthly fee for my account, and keep 100% of the profits made.

So, does this mean I don’t need any fancy equipment? Can I easily manage customer accounts and create domain names?

Also, what should I do for customer support? I can do it via e-mail, but I won’t be available 24/7.

Building a website for someone with Host Gator?
I’m working on building a website for my friend’s business. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions before I get started.

Since I already have a HostGator account, I was going to purchase everything myself, set it up on my CPU and then bill my friend for the startup cost and my time. This way, when they need edits done I can do those easily. In the future, the administration of this site might be forwarded to my friend (so I’d have to transfer all the admin / password / info to them)…and probably figure some way to strike my credit card info from that.

I know HG has a reseller account that can be purchased but for me this is more of a one time thing–if it were to turn into more I guess that would be an option down the road.

I’m just looking for feedback to make sure I’m not missing anything or running into potential problems.

    Thanks in advance.
