Can you really make money selling in eBay?
I just want to know if anyone here has actually made money and a steady income selling items on eBay. I already have a full time job but want to make some money throuh eBay to boost my income and help me save for a holiday. I’ve heard of people saying they buy stuff abroad (China, Japan) and then sell it over here but I’m a bit suspicious. Anyway I want to here some real stories of people who have actually made money selling on eBay

I can’t comment on tradesmen (i.e. those running a business) however it’s quite possible as a private individual ..
Essentially you are selling second-hand goods .. you need to do a bit of research on eBay and find out what’s selling well .. then you source the goods from Charity Shops / Car Boot Sales / School / Church / Club bazaars, fairs & markets etc.
All the best stuff at a Car Boot goes in the hour or so just before/after opening .. if the sellers start setting up at 7am for an 8am opening, you have to be there at 7.30am or earlier .. and the best bargains are to be had in the 30mins just before closing …
Focus on the ‘occasional’ sellers i.e. those who do not turn out week after week, have no real idea what stuff is worth and will want to get rid of everything on the day = if you go every week you will soon spot the ‘traders’ – they know what stuff is worth and won’t be dropping prices much at the end of the day since they can be back with the same stock next week .. so don’t waste your time looking for bargains there …
Talk to the people in the Charity shops & find out when new stuff is coming in – a lot of shops move stuff that’s not selling in one area to another area – it’s often irregular but the staff usually know a day or two in advance .. so drop in daily and chat to them .. after a while they will know the type of goods you are interested in and will start putting stuff aside for you ..
Church and School bazaars are a very good source of cheap stuff .. again, best value as soon as it opens, best bargains just before closing = they are not held that often so they will just want to get rid of everything on the day .. and the stuff is usually donated so they are happy to get whatever you offer ..
Just like any other work, if you don’t spend time and effort you will see little reward ..
I am hoping to make money selling on ebay, any tips?
I have loads of gorgeous clothes at home and I wont wear them again as I ‘ve recently had a baby so they dont fit and I’ve got got so much stuff in general, houseitems, baby things and so many clothes its crazy.

You can try craigslist to sell them for free, they let you upload 4 images for each add. If you choose to ebay, go look around at clothes on ebay like yours and see how they are priced, of course if they will sell, the cheaper the better. You can make cute ads, dont invest in too many options for your ads, put a good picture. Spell out the color and size and description and manufacturer if its a designer one in the title, people cruise through pretty quick, and I know if I see, cotton sweater size 14 long slv purple, I will look and if it says nice sweater look inside, I donot take the time to look inside.
Describe it will, 14 blue buttons, large collar in white, no stains in good condition no holes, measures 34 inches laid flat on table and 23 inches long laid out flat on table, that way a woman can measure herself and see if that will fit her. The more the better. Put your terms, returns if notified withing three days of recieving, you pay postage to return meaning them. Make sure you put, this is a perfect discription and picture type info. Send with delivery confirmed, that way no one will ever say they did not get the item. Take a picture of the item in the box before you seal it up *use shipping envelopes they weigh less. People like their items fast, you can offer two day shipping or standard group, spell it out, I ship the day after I recieve your money, deliverty confirmed 2 day. Or put, item should be recieved in ten working days, the more you say, the less they will bother you after they hit purchase. Put the city and state you live in too, that way they see how far away and have a better idea of how quick it will come too. With Shipping Charges So High, How Do You Make Money Selling On Ebay?
Seems like with ebay’s fees on top of shipping, it’s hard to get a good deal (isn’t that what ebay was about? Sort of?)
and even harder to make anything selling stuff.
Is there some way to do it I just don’t know about?
Since the buyer usually pays the shipping, the seller is not impacted by the shipping costs. Buyers wouldn’t really buy if the all in costs were higher than what you could get down the street. Its also a way to get stuff that you can not find locally. People are really successful selling stuff, but you have to own it at the right peice since ebay is an active price discovery system tb.

Im trying to open an ebay store as a side job, but everything i find to sell is already so cheap that i cant make even a dollars profit on anything. Is it because people buy in bulk or have deals with the manufacturers or what? how is anyone makeing money on ebay?
While many ebay sellers simply buy lots from ebay to resell or from estate sales, others have manufacturers and suppliers that gives them very low prices and they can afford to mark up their prices pretty well.
For the last four years, I’ve been selling pearls on ebay, among other things. For my pearl products, I source them from the Philippines and I have suppliers. I can get freshwater pearls 6 mm size for only 20 pesos – that’s like $0.40. I start bidding at $20, sometimes less — my base price alone gives me a huge profit margin. Same with Akoya and South Sea pearls – high quality pearls that I sell starting at $199, I only pay a fraction of its price including shipping.
Or batik wall hangings from Indonesia or Thailand that I can get from my suppliers for only $0.50 or less and resell for $9.99.
So I don’t rely on deals that you can see on estate auctions once in a while as I have a steady supply of cheap products that I can resell.
